Relay quota & Pro
When you reach your sessions from off your network — from the phone, or a remote peer — the connection runs end-to-end encrypted through a relay. On the free tier that relay is metered; Pro makes it unlimited.
Free tier
Section titled “Free tier”The free tier includes 5 relay bridges per month. A bridge is a device connecting to you through the relay. Two details keep the count fair:
- Counted per device, per day. The same device re-connecting through the relay on the same day is free — you only spend from the quota when a new device bridges, or the same device bridges on a new day.
- Resets monthly. The count rolls over at the start of each month.
nodeterm gives you a heads-up as you go: the first bridge of the month is silent, later ones show a notification with your running count, and once you’re out, a new pairing is declined before it connects.
What’s never metered
Section titled “What’s never metered”- QR pairing itself — generating a code and pairing a device never counts. Only the relay bridge does.
- Local-network connections — reaching your desktop from a phone or peer on the same network goes direct, not through the relay, so it never touches the quota.
Pro removes the relay cap entirely — unlimited relay bridges — and unlocks Team Access, which lets you share your canvas with teammates by the seat.
