Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of nodeterm — the desktop app (macOS and Linux), the self-hosted Server Edition, nodeterm mobile (the iOS companion) and the optional nodeterm Pro features. By downloading or using any of them, you agree to these terms.

1. Who we are

nodeterm is an independent software project. Questions about these terms: support@nodeterm.dev.

2. The apps and your license to use them

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the nodeterm apps for any lawful purpose, personal or commercial. You may not resell, sublicense or redistribute the apps themselves as your own product.

The source code is licensed separately. nodeterm's source is available on GitHub under the Business Source License 1.1 (each release converts to MIT four years after it ships). That license — not these terms — governs what you can do with the code.

For the iOS app: these terms apply alongside Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which applies as a minimum where these terms are silent. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms with respect to the iOS app and may enforce them against you.

3. Your responsibilities

nodeterm runs real terminals and real coding agents on your machines — local, remote over SSH, or self-hosted. That power is the point, and it is yours to control:

4. nodeterm Pro — purchases and subscriptions

Core nodeterm is free to use. nodeterm Pro unlocks optional paid features (such as unlimited relay remote access). Prices are shown at the point of purchase.

5. Third-party services

nodeterm is a workspace for tools you bring: coding-agent CLIs (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini and others), git hosting, your own servers. Those run under their own providers' terms and your own accounts — nodeterm doesn't proxy them, and we're not a party to your agreements with those providers. What the apps themselves collect (very little) is described in the privacy policy.

6. Disclaimer of warranty

THE APPS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We don't promise the apps or the relay will be uninterrupted or error-free.

7. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES — INCLUDING LOST DATA, LOST PROFITS OR THE COST OF SUBSTITUTE SERVICES — ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APPS. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for nodeterm Pro in the twelve months before the claim (or, if you paid nothing, USD 10). Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations; where the law gives you rights that can't be waived — including consumer rights — those rights are unaffected.

8. Termination

You can stop using nodeterm at any time. We may suspend or terminate access to hosted services (the relay, licensing) for breach of these terms, particularly the abuse rules in section 3. Sections 5–7 survive termination. Your rights under the BUSL-1.1 source license are governed by that license, not by this section.

9. Changes to these terms

If these terms change materially, the new version will be published here with a new "last updated" date. Continuing to use the apps after a change means you accept the updated terms.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Louisiana, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, this choice of law doesn't take away protections you're entitled to under the mandatory laws of the place you live.
